Torrential rainfall produced significant flooding in the Ponce De Leon area on State Highway 81. Up to eight inches of water covered several roads. Gusty winds and saturated grounds downed several trees and power lines. Reported by the Walton County EMA.
Significant flash flooding occurred for an unusually long period of time as very heavy rain moved repeatedly over the area. A section of driveway and part of a house washed out just off of Highway 30A. Monetary damage was estimated.
Heavy rain produced flash flooding over many areas across northwest FL and the adjacent panhandle. Wakulla county reported 6-7 inches of rain during the mid to late morning, with 3-6 inches across most of the region beginning late Wednesday night (Jan. 20th). There were widespread reports of flooded roadways, with water in some homes in Wakulla county. FSU campus in Tallahassee reported 50-60 cars flooded. Two hikers were stranded and clinging to trees along the Florida Trail near Freeport in Walton county.
