Multiple trees were reported down over the western and middle sections of the town. Including a tree falling into a building at 1 Crouch Street, trees down across Eastern Point Road, and a utility pole and wires down on Thames Street.
Severe thunderstorms moving across eastern Connecticut caused a variety of weather problems. A few homes sustained considerable damage after being struck by lightning. A couple of men were lucky to be alive after being struck by lightning. Golf ball-size hail was reported in New London, but apparently did little, if any, damage. In Windham County numerous large trees were reported down in Plainfield. More than 9,000 electric customers lost power statewide.
A squall line moving across the region produced an enormous amount of damage during the afternoon hours. Powerful winds, the result of several microbursts, downed thousands of trees and power lines. Numerous structures received various degrees of damage. A significant amount of this damage occurred to the roofs. In Stamford, a driver was injured when a tree fell on her car.
