Strong winds knocked down a dozen trees stretching from W. Covina to Cal Poly in Pomona. Winds were part of a cold front and associated upper low pressure system which moved through the area. Some minor street flooding and many car accidents were also reported.
Scattered thunderstorms developed over Los Angeles county, bringing gusty winds to sections of the coastal plain. Between the communities of Downey and Montebello, thunderstorm winds uprooted a couple of trees and blew shingles off some roofs. Also, one person was injured by wind-blown debris.
Strong thunderstorm wind gusts were reported south of Palmdale in the Antelope Valley. An automated sensor owned by Southern California Edison (Soledad Siphon Station) reported a wind gust of 61 MPH, associated with nearby thunderstorm activity.
