Thunderstorms with large hail developed near the town of Peridot in southern Gila County during the afternoon hours on August 1st. At 1633MST, a teacher at a local school in Peridot reported quarter sized hail. Some of the largest stones had a diameter of one inch and were large enough to break a window at one of the residences on campus. At about the same time, penny to nickle sized hailstones were reported by the public in town, at the Bashas store along US Highway 70. No damage or injuries were reported from those hailstones.
Isolated thunderstorms developed across portions of southern Gila County during the afternoon hours on September 16th. One of the stronger storms generated large hail that affected areas near and to the southeast of Lake Roosevelt. According to a trained weather spotter located 8 miles southeast of the town of Roosevelt, large hail fell with some stones nearly as large as a nickle. One stone was measured with a diameter of 0.88 inches. No damage occurred as a result of the large hail.
Isolated thunderstorms developed across southern Gila County during the afternoon and early evening hours on July 10th. Some storms affected the area around Hayden and Winkelman. At 603 pm, a public report was received of large hail in the town of Winkelman. The hail was estimated to be 0.75 inches in diameter.
