A line of severe thunderstorms blew threw much of Tooele County, kicking up a wall of dust and producing severe wind gusts all along the Mesonet. As the line approached the Grantsville area, it overturned 3 semi-trailer trucks on Interstate 15.
A strong microburst near Erda, UT was observed by a live area webcam. Multiple pictures were later received showing a large tree downed, roof shingles blown off, play structures damaged and/or blown over, fences damaged, a house under construction damaged, and a center pivot damaged. Based on the damage pictures, an estimated wind gust of around 70 mph was determined.
The VERNON HILL mesonet station recorded an initial strong wind gust of 59 mph at 3:30 pm MST, followed by a subsequent wind gust of 59 mph at 4:15 pm MST, with sustained winds in excess of 50 mph between those gusts. These wind gusts were the result of outflow winds associated with a nearby cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area.
