A tornadic supercell produced a long swath of severe hail ranging in size from quarters to as large as baseballs at times. Damage photos from social media indicated some cars sustained heavy damage, but damage to homes or other property was not known.
Golf ball size hail was reported at the Texas State Highway Department in Aspermont. The Texas Tech University West Texas mesonet station in Aspermont sustained damage from wind-blown hail. At the mesonet station, all of the radiation shields were smashed, a 4 inch plastic rain gauge was broken, and the rim of a metal rain gauge was bent.
A deputy from the Aspermont Police Department reported very strong winds and hail increasing from nickel to half dollar size while driving south along Highway 83. Minor hail dents were noted on the side of the deputies vehicle.
