A homeowner interviewed by a local television station reported ping pong to golf ball sized hail, which damaged his roof and several of his windows. He also reported severe damage to trees, shingles, and a destroyed wooden playground due to very gusty winds.
Facebook reports relayed to the NWS office in Brownsville reported two large hail reports east of Rio Grande City: Golfball sized hail 4.6 miles east, near La Puerta, and half-dollar sized hail (1.25) 4 miles east southeast of Rio Grande City near Los Velas road.
Tennis ball sized hail was reported in the Los Villareales section of Rio Grande City, and Golfball sized hail at two nearby locations, by the public and local Sheriff's Office, between Midway Road and Hospital Drive, and along US 83 and FM 3167, all just a few miles east of Los Villareales in the west portion of Rio Grande City between 705 and 715 PM CDT.
