A house fire was reported on Chaparral Trot in Collin County around 8 am local time. Local fire officials stated lightning hit the peak of the roof sparking a fire in the attic of a two-story home. Fire damage was incurred in the attic and smoke and water damage plagued the rest of the home.
Lightning struck and caused significant electrical damage to an SUV travelling on Highway 380, one mile east of Highway 289. Post analysis found that the lightning bolt entered the vehicle through the radio antenna, caused scorching of the paint under the antenna, and exited through the ABS speed sensors located on the wheel drums. Significant damage occurred to the vehicle's electronic computer systems, wiring harness and window motors. Damage to the vehicle was reported at $7,347.
Frisco Fire and Rescue reported a house fire started by a lightning strike at the 7175 block of Maple Street. The strike caused an electrical surge which ignited the gas feed coming into the stove, creating 5,000 dollars in damage.
