What the reports say
Written by National Weather Service staff at the time of the event · public domain
The severe thunderstorms which moved across Coleman County during the evening hours damaged virtually every barn and storage building in the southern part of the county, as well as blowing down thousands of trees, and hundreds of power line poles.
These winds were embedded in the large squall line that moved through the Heartland, and the winds produced a large swath of damage across the region. Minor roof damage and broken tree limbs were reported in the small town of Valera.
This is a continuation of the strong downburst winds associated with an intense squall line that produced additional damage in the wake of a tornado that moved through the area just prior to the onset of the strong winds.
