A trained spotter in Cross Plains observed severe hail for about 10 minutes. The hail grew to the size of tennis balls for a time before ending. In addition to the large hail, wind gusts to 68 mph were occuring at the same time as well.
A severe thunderstorm developed across southeast Jack County around 1500 CST and moved northeast producing at least four tornadoes before crossing the Red River into Oklahoma, where it continued to produce tornadoes. The first tornado touched down in eastern Jack County near Wizard Wells and moved northeast into western Wise County in the Lake Bridgeport area. The second tornado first touched down five miles northeast of Sunset in Montague County, moved northeast to just south of Saint Jo, then moved into Cooke County northwest of Muenster. Tornado number two lifted and tornado number three developed near Bulcher. Tornado number three remained on the ground as the storm tracked into Oklahoma.
