Flash Flood in Cheatham County, Tennessee

Cheatham County Emergency Management reported major flash flooding along Pond Creek Road near the Davidson County line, which was underwater and impassable in many locations. Around 955 pm CST, one woman was swept away and drowned after attempting to walk across a flooded bridge along the driveway to her home at 4660 Pond Creek Road. Another man was rescued from the hood of his vehicle at Green Valley Drive and Pond Creek Road after attempting to drive through flooding. Three other water rescues occurred across the county. Total damage was estimated at $99,432.

9 people had to be rescued from flooded homes, some were on rooftops. 20 people were isolated because of the flood waters. 3 inches of water collected into the Pegram City Hall. At Turner's Creek, water rose as much as 3 feet in 5 minutes. Larry Donegan grabbed onto an electrical pole, and his wife Judy held onto a guide wire. They hung on for about an hour until they were rescued by EMA officials by a boat. Up to six inches of rain fell in Cheatham county. Mr. Donegan estimated that the water rose 14 feet above ground level near his home. His trailer was pushed a 100 feet downstream, and a camper was flipped onto his pickup truck. There was water damage to Sam's Creek Bridge on State Route 249. Propane tanks floated down Sam's Creek. A wooden bridge was destroyed and twisted into an "S" by the flood waters at at Dry Creek.

Flash flooding that resulted in heavy rains caused Sycamore Creek to flood, affecting several roads in the county including George Boyd, Harristown, and Lockersville. In addition, high waters affected the Girl Scout Camp off Highway 49, but no additional details were provided. Parts of Sycamore Valley Golf Course was under water. In Pleasant View, some flooding occurred on Dowlen and Main Streets. Water got into the air conditioning units in two homes on Main Street and a garage on Dowlen Street.
