,,,,,,,,Thunderstorm Winds A severe thunderstorm produced damaging wind gusts and hail as large as baseballs in the northern Chester County Townships of Warwick, East Vincent and all of the Coventries. The very large hail (The report of baseball-size hail came from East Coventry Township) caused damage to homes, vehicles and businesses. Four greenhouse establishments suffered substantial damage estimated at around $3 million. About 45 greenhouse buildings were badly damaged by the large hail. Damaging winds destroyed a mobile home in Warwick. Trees were uprooted in Elverson. In East Vincent Township straight line wind gusts tossed a picnic table through a window, destroyed a swingset, tore away roof shingles and snapped large trees. No injuries were reported.
A pair of severe thunderstorms caused wind related damage throughout northern and eastern sections of Chester County. The first one caused wind related damage along Pennsylvania State Routes 82 and 401 and within West Brandywine, Ludwigs Corner and Coatesville. The second one produced wind gusts to 70 mph and golf ball-size hail in West Chester. Trees fell on houses in Westtown and East Goshen and along Pennsylvania State Route 3. A porch was wrecked in Westtown. Power lines were knocked down in many parts of eastern Chester County.
Penny to quarter size hail fell in Oxford Borough and Cochranville in West Fallowfield Township. In Cochranville, the hail accumulated one to two inches deep and caused some minor damage to vegetation as it removed some leaves.
