A sinkhole formed and the road was badly damaged along North Carolina Route 135/311 where heavy rain occurred and runoff flowed across the road. The flooding was aggravated by a water main break under the road. Damage estimate per NC DOT. A water rescue also occurred where one person was stranded in a vehicle that was halfway submerged near the intersection of MacGregor Lane and River Road.
Numerous swift water rescues were made from residents in homes and in vehicles in both Madison and Mayodan. Multiple roads were closed due to the high water. Several businesses in downtown Madison were severely flooded, resulting in extensive damage to merchandise and flooring.
Multiple roads were reported throughout Rockingham County due to heavy rainfall of 2 to 3 inches in several hours. This followed heavy rains the day before as well. At least two roads were severely damaged as culverts were washed out and sinkholes formed. The most damage occurred on Webb Road where pipes under the road collapsed and the road was swept away. A tobacco farm nearby suffered flood damages with approximately $100,000 in losses. A private road was damaged cutting off access for nine persons living along Sunrise Acres Road.
