A line of severe thunderstorms producing winds of 80 mph moved across northwestern Duplin county. Roofs were blown off of 2 residences and 2 turkey houses were destroyed by the high wind near NC 43 in Calypso. Trees and power lines were knocked down in Faison and Bowdens.
National Weather Service conducted a storm survey across northwest Duplin County and found that a welding shop was destroyed near the 200 block of Highway 403 due to straight line winds estimated at 70 to 80 miles per hour.
A micro-burst with winds estimated at 70 to 80 mph briefly did damage in Duplin County about 4 miles south of Faison. The winds did significant damage to an outbuilding and flipped a cargo trailer. A house also had some damage to its roof and garage door.
