A line of severe thunderstorms moved across northern Carven County producing winds of 75 mph. A trailer was destroyed in New Bern when it flipped over and numerous trees were blown down causing Highway 17 to be closed for a period of time. About 4 cars were forced off of the road by the high wind and into ditches.
Strong thunderstorms moved across the Crystal Coast early in the morning of the 28th spawning several tornadoes and downbursts. In Sneads Ferry the roof of a mobile home was peeled off and two football field light poles were downed. One inch hail was reported. A tornado at the Marine's Camp Lejeune downed several large oak trees and damaged 35 military vehicles. At Bogue Field downburst winds picked up 150 feet of runway matting and through it across a field. A tractor-semitrailer was overturned by strong winds on Highway 70 in Havelock.
A large tree was blown down in front of a home. Evidence of a tree blown down across Hwy 70 was also reported, but the tree had already been cleared with debris still present across the median. The time was estimated based on radar data.
