Several roads throughout Montgomery County were closed due to flooding, some of which included the villages of Hagaman and Fultonville and the towns of Palatine, Canajoharie, Root, Charleston and Glen. Overall, the county experienced 21 road closures, 2 damaged road culverts, 2 mudslides, 1 foundational collapse of a home and 3 motor vehicle accidents.
Major flooding occurred on the Canajoharie Creek in Montgomery County. The Canajoharie river gage located on the right bank 10 feet upstream from the bridge on McEwan Road and 2.3 miles southwest of Canajoharie exceeded its 8 foot flood stage at 2:47 pm EST September 7th, its 9 foot moderate flood stage at 12:18 am September 8th, its 10 foot major flood stage at 3:24 am, it crested at a record 10.23 feet at 5:45 pm and dropped below flood stage at 3:22 pm September 8th.
Flood-prone areas of the city of Amsterdam experienced flooding beginning early Friday morning, with the worst flooding occurring in the West Main Street and Locust Avenue areas. Also, a mudslide resulted in the closure of Chapman Drive for a short period.
