Trees and wires down in Peru and along Lakeshore Drive in South Plattsburgh. In addition, several airport hangar roofs suffered wind damage and an old DC-3 aircraft was pushed through a chain link fence with damage to fence and aircraft.
Numerous trees downed by thunderstorm winds across Cumberland Head and local state park as well as damaged docks and boats at the Treadwell marina. Several trees and large branches fell on camp sites within state park with only a few minor injuries reported.
An area of low pressure moved into southern Canada during July 3, 1997. The associated cold front moved across northern New York during the late morning and afternoon hours. Showers and thunderstorms preceeded and accompanied these storms and some resulted in locally heavy rain and strong winds. Small hail…generally 1/2 inch or smaller was also reported with a few of the storms.
