Public reported hail lasting approximately 20 to 25 minutes. First started as pea size and got progressively larger. The largest stones were baseball sized. It destroyed crops and gardens. There were numerous downed branches.
Hail, a few stones a little bigger than golfball-size, fell in the Humphrey area. There were some reports of baseball-size and larger stones in the area as well, although the larger stones were apparently few and far between and not confirmed. Some vehicle and crop damage was noted in the region.
Hail up to 2 inches in diameter fell from around Monroe through the Columbus area. The hail caused vehicle and siding damage with at least 75 home and auto claims received by one insurance agency by the next morning. Most of the damage in the Columbus area was across the far southwest and northeast sections of town.
