A supercell thunderstorm moved across Big Alkali Lake camping area, as well as other smaller nearby lakes, producing strong winds and large hail. Numerous windshields and windows were broken in campers, pickup trucks, and cabins. The hail also damaged the bodies of vehicles and the siding on the campers.
Windshields and windows were broken from the large hail. Baseball size hail was also reported three and four miles north-northwest of Kilgore and two miles southwest of Kilgore. The hail fell in these locations between 7:15 p.m. CDT and 7:30 p.m. CDT and was also accompanied by 60 m.p.h. winds.
