Downburst pushed an older style house (built early 1900s) off its foundation resulting in its collapse. The house was around 1000 square feet and in liveable but not great condition. Based on reports from the spotter, winds were estimated at 70-78 knots (80-90 mph).
Corn was flattened on the Verkruyse Farm just south of County Route V. On the Gaston Farm just north of County V, a 12 inch diameter ash tree was felled along with a few shingles being pulled off an outbuilding. West of the intersection of County Route V and Highway 81 a telephone pole was snapped off at the base.
Winds estimated to be 60 mph blew down a 4 inch diameter branch about 15 feet long off of a willow tree about 10 miles north of Luray. Delayed report. Time estimated. The trained spotter was not at home when it occurred.
