Tornado in Claiborne County, Mississippi

This tornado touched down on the southeast side of Port Gibson, near the Natchez Trace Parkway. As the tornado tracked north-northeast, it snapped hardwood trees and uprooted numerous trees. One tree fell on a house on Smith Street, which caused roof damage. The tornado then tracked toward the northeast, crossing the Natchez Trace Parkway and Highway 18. Here it continued to snap or uproot trees and also caused roof damage to a structure. An extensive area of trees were snapped or blown down just before it crossed the Natchez Trace corridor a second time. After crossing the Natchez Trace Parkway again, it continued to snap and blow down numerous trees. As the tornado tracked northeast, it crossed Old Port Gibson Road, Hankinson Road, and Moulder Road where it continued to snap or uproot numerous trees. The tornado finally lifted near Fisher Ferry Road in southern Warren County. A tornado debris signature was |noted on radar during this tornado. The total path length of this tornado was 20.03|miles and the estimated maximum wind speed was 115 mph, which occurred in Claiborne County.

The tornado touched down to the northwest of Buckins Creek basin and moved more east northeast, beginning on Moss Down Lane. It continued along a three to four mile portion of Highway 547. This tornado began to widen and caused widespread tree damage all along the path, especially along Highway 547. Hundreds of trees were snapped and uprooted and many power lines were broken or power poles snapped near Mt. Pleasant Road, Coleman Road and Northeast Smith Road. In addition, some homes had trees fall on them or had tin peeled back off of the roof. One 18 wheeler tractor trailer was overturned. The tornado was at its widest along Highway 547 and damaged reached high end EF1 levels. It continued past Northeast Smith Road into another creek basin, causing more widespread tree damage. It continued to Henneberry Road before lifting. The maximum estimated winds with this tornado was 110mph.

This tornado first touched down in northern Claiborne County downing trees along Floyd Road. It then crossed the Big Black River into southern Warren County impacting a hunting camp, destroying 2 mobile homes, snapping 4 power poles and snapping numerous trees. It then moved across Gullett Road where it destroyed 3 large outbuildings, heavily damaged the roof of a brick home, and snapped numerous trees. The tornado next crossed Campbell Swamp Road where it reached its maximum width and snapped hundreds of trees. The tornado then moved nearly parallel to Price Hill Road again snapping and uprooting many trees. One of the trees fell on a house causing significant damage. The tornado continued downing more trees, but then lifted as it crossed Jeff Davis Road. Maximum estimated wind speeds were 120 mph.
