An apparent microburst knocked down tens of trees along Chapel Point Road near State Route 6 in the Port Tobacco area just southwest of La Plata. Several large oaks were among them, and one caused $100 thousand in damage to a home. Physicians Memorial Hospital in Waldorf reported four times the usual Saturday night "business"; however, whether any of the services were storm related (to injury) was not determined.
Dozens of tall and large trees were knocked over near the bend in Stump Neck Rd. Additional damage was surveyed at 5255 Hwy 224 where multiple large trees were toppled over. A 16 inch tree was snapped at the top, falling on top of a boat. Numerous large limbs were scattered around. Around 6 telephone poles were reported knocked over at the Naval Annex. The base was closed due to extensive damage.
Severe thunderstorms dumped large hail in the northern part of Prince Georges County. Oxon Hill received one inch-sized hail. Powerful thunderstorm winds knocked down trees and power lines throughout Charles County. Numerous lightning strikes damaged power lines and knocked out power to over 9,000 homes in Baltimore County.
