An eight year old boy from Columbus, Mississippi was fatally injured by lightning at a family gathering. The child was standing near a tree when the tree was struck by lightning from a thunderstorm. No rain was occurring at the time of the lightning strike. The boy was admitted to the hospital, and died on June 2.
Two men who had been working on a roof in the 11800 block of Old Hammond Highway sought shelter under a tree as thunderstorms passed through. Lightning struck the tree, killing one of the men and injuring the other. The time of the event was estimated.
St. George Fire Department responded to a structure fire of a 2 story apartment in the 10700 block of Industriplex Boulevard. SGFD investigators responded to the scene and concluded that the fire was caused by a lightning strike.
