Flooding occurred along the White River in Knox County, including near the Petersburg, Hazleton, and Edwardsport areas, due to heavy rain and levee breaches. Levee unit 8 failed in the Smother's Creek area near Edwardsport. The levee breach failure caused the White River to crest at Edwardsport. More than 20,000 acres of Daviess County flooded as a result of the levee failure.
Extensive flooding occurred along the White River near Willis, Indiana. The river crested 7.8 feet above flood stage on May 19th at a reading of 23.8 feet at the Petersburg, Indiana river gauge. Flooding of this magnitude typically affects local/county/state roads, agricultural land, rural residental areas, and surrounds river cabins. Damage costs are grossly estimated.
Flooding of bottomlands occurred along the White River in and near Edwardsport, Indiana. Flooding continued from April. The river crested at 19 feet on May 5th. Flood stage is 15 feet. Crop damage estimate is grossly estimated.
