Thunderstorm winds knocked down several trees all over the county. Several businesses in Griffin had windows broken. Some of the trees that fell in Griffin were at least three feet in diameter, damaging several homes and blowing at least one turbine across a roof. One 19-year-old male was injured when a tree fell on him as he was trying to take shelter. Two more people were injured when trees fell onto their cars.
The squall line moved through Spalding county downing numerous trees and large limbs in Griffin. A large oak tree fell on 1 home destroying it. Other houses and vehicles were damaged by falling trees and limbs. Power outages resulted to 80 percent of Griffin Electric's 14,000 customers as power poles snapped and lines fell.
The Spalding County Emergency Manager reported numerous trees blown down between Griffin and Sunny Side. Several mobile homes were damaged by falling trees north of Griffin near Experiment and south of Sunny Side, no injuries were reported. A power pole was snapped by the wind a couple of miles southeast of Sunny Side.
