The Chattooga County Emergency Management Director observed golf ball-sized hail approximately three miles south-southwest of Summerville. The public observed nickel-sized hail in the Menlo area. Radar supported nickel or larger size hail in a large swath across the central and southern parts of the county from Menlo, to the Floyd county line south of James H. Floyd State Park.
A CoCoRAHS spotter observed 2.0 inch diameter hail near Lyerly. The Chattooga County Emergency Management Director reported golf ball-sized hail in the far southern part of the county around Chattoogaville. This hail occurred from a separate thunderstorm from the one that spawned a tornado just southeast of Summerville and also dropped penny to quarter-sized hail across the northern part of the county.
The Summerville Post Office reported that a person experienced golf ball size hail while driving on Georgia Highway 42 between Summerville and Menlo. The hail caused damage to the vehicle. The Chattooga county 911 center reported quarter size hail in Lyerly.
