Flood in Pasco County, Florida

The Anclote River at Elfers began to flood on the 24th due primarily to heavy rains from Tropical Storm Debby. The river crested early on the morning of the 26th at 26.74 feet, or 6.74 feet above flood stage, and then fell below flood stage on the 29th. As many as 15,000 people were evacuated from 7,000 homes due to the rising flood waters. Homes at Anclote River Estates were standing in several feet of water.||On the 27th, the body of a 46 year old man was found floating in the Anclote River. The Medical Examiner determined that the man died of accidental drowning, with a cardiovascular factor, but no other details are known.

Heavy rains, mostly from Hurricane Hermine brought the Anclote River at Elfers into major flood stage, cresting at 25.08 feet at 1830EST on the 3rd. The river was in moderate or major flood stage from 0400EST on the 3rd through 0100EST on the 6th. In total, 2,672 properties were impacted, with 1,565 homes with minor damage, 305 homes with major damage, and 7 homes destroyed. In total, damage from the flooding was estimated to be $89 million.

The Anclote River near Elfers, was just below flood stage at the onset of the heavy rain courtesy of 6-10 of rain across the basin at the end of July. The heavy rain and subsequent river flooding at the beginning of August produced millions in dollars of damage across Pasco County. The river crest at 25.4 feet which was well above major flood stage of 24.0 feet. ||In total, 46 single family dwellings were destroyed, 32 received major damage and 258 homes sustained minor damage from the flooding. 36 mobile homes were destroyed while 6 others sustained damage from flooding.
