A severe thunderstorm produced a swath of large hail reports across parts of Martin County including Palm City, Port Salerno, and Hobe Sound. Numerous reports of quarter to golf ball sized hailstones were reported across the area. Several pictures provided via social media showed hail accumulating on surfaces in Palm City, with depths generally below one-inch.
Ping pong to golf ball sized hail occurred in association with a fast moving severe thunderstorms. Reports indicated that the hail fell as chunks. Two golfers at the Palm Cove Golf Course were struck and injured by the large hail. Both golfers sustained minor head lacerations, were treated at the scene, then transported and released from an area hospital. Report relayed by Martin County Emergency Management and Martin County Fire Rescue.
