Persistent heavy rains occurred from weakening Hurricane Gustav and dumped 8 to 12 inches of rain across the county. This heavy rainfall caused many roads to flood along with several homes taking in water.||Agriculture was especially hard hit as all of the farmland was flooded. In some cases, entire crops were lost or were substantially damaged where yields were very low.
Heavy rain fell across nearly all of Ashley County and caused several roads around Hamburg to flood as well as several more across the central and southeast portion of the county. One home in Portland was flooded as 4 to 6 inches of rain fell across the area.
More heavy rainfall on the 13th caused significant flooding across a large portion of Ashley County. Numerous roads were under water and closed. Crops across the region were damaged as well from all of the rain and saturated conditions.
