Catastrophic flash flooding occurred along Rio Grande de Arecibo in the municipality of Utuado. Serious mudslides occurred across the municipality, were many bridges were totally destroyed, leaving most communities were isolated from getting food, gas and goods supplies. Three sisters were confirmed dead at San Miguel sector when a mudslide destroy their house.
Showers and thunderstorms with very heavy rain developed during the mid afternoon and persisted through the early evening. Rainfall accumulations of up to five inches were reported in Utuado City. One home was flooded along road 111, Las Pinas sector; a mudslide on road 111, Barrio Caguana, las Pinas sector. A bridge in the Guaonico sector was covered by debris and flood waters from the Rio Grande de Arecibo. Mudslides were reported in Camino Los Alicea, road 603. fallen trees obstructed road 123. Mudslides obstructed roadway in sector Las Cojobas. A downed power line affected home in Barrio Los Pinos. Downed telephone pole on road 603 at Barrio Roncador. Three bridges were undermined IN sector Guaonico on exit towards Barrio Roncador. A retaining wall supporting a road in sector Guaonico was undermined. Loose soil and mudslide caused protection wall to collapse to a depth of about 10 feet.
The Emergency Manager reported that a creek located behind Larcoop Cooperative Bank in Utuado had overflowed its banks, affecting multiple roads near the area. Despite the flooding, all affected roads remain passable. According to radar estimates, approximately 1 to 4 inches of rainfall had been reported by 4 PM.
