The Doddridge County Senior Center in West Union observed substantial damage to its foundation due to the inundation of rain. The wall inside of the building was caved in from downed trees and water rushed down the hill into the basement. Neighborhoods within West Union also suffered basement and roof damage. Minor road damage was observed within the town due to blocked culverts and small landslides.
Numerous trees and large branches were blown down in scattered locations about the county. One house sustained major damage. Electricity was out to around 3,300 customers. The pubic infrastructure damage assessment was around $158,000.
A squall line moved at 40 MPH across the western lowlands. The worst damage occurred in the Crystal Lake region of Doddridge County, about 4 miles from West Union. A downburst was about a half mile long and a quarter mile wide. One house and one barn had their roofs blown off. Five houses had shingles and siding torn away. A post storm survey indicated a sudden peak wind gust of near 100 MPH likely occurred at Crystal Lake. Urban and small stream flooding was seen around Huntington after 1 to 2 inches of rain fell on saturated ground. A college student kayaked down H,untington's flooded streets. Sewers backed up and flooded some businesses. Walker Branch caused washouts along roads in northern Wayne County.
