Heavy rainfall of 2 to 4 inches in several hours caused several small streams to flood including Greasy Creek southwest of Buckingham. After the flooding receded, the County Sheriff's Office said deputies found a deceased 61-year-old woman inside a pickup truck several days after she was reported missing. The truck was found on its side and wedged against a tree, about 300 yards from a dirt driveway that crossed Grease Creek. The sheriff's office said a preliminary investigation indicated that flood waters disabled the truck and carried it downstream when the driver tried to drive across the flooded low-water crossing.
Runoff from several inches of rain caused Sycamore Creek to rise out of its banks and flow across Sycamore Creek Road near the intersection of Woodlawn Church Road. At around 9:40 pm EST, the rainfall triggered at least one debris flow nearby. The flooding left large amounts of debris along the bridge crossing the creek and across the roadway. Structural damage to the road was also observed and required repair.
The NWS Cooperative station at Buckingam (BUKV2) had its wettest April 13th on record with 2.01 inches for the 24-hour period ending 700 AM EST. The previous date record was 1.75 inches in 1901. It was also the 8th wettest for any April date with nearly complete data back to 1951 and broken data back to 1895. Significant road damage was reported by VDOT in Buckingham County.
