A large roof section was torn from a home in the small community of Reliance north of Rock Springs. Strong wind also toppled a utility pole and did damage to a nearby fence. Weak convection was responsible for the wind gust, as there was no thunderstorm in the area.
Microburst winds caused damage in a broad area of central Rock Springs just prior to 2200MST. Siding was torn from the side of one home, another had an exterior door and window broken, and there were numerous reports of broken tree limbs.
The same storm which downed a tree at Evanston (see above) produced remarkable winds and abundant damage in Sweetwater County as it moved through. Winds at Flaming Gorge Reservoir went from calm to gusting over 70 mph within seconds. Very heavy rain and wind driven pea-sized hail were also reported. These hurricane force winds lasted from 45 minutes to an hour driving a few docks over five feet onto the shore. These winds also produced damage in the cities of Green River and Rock Springs. Numerous tree limbs up to four inches in diameter were snapped off in Green River and Rock Springs. Also, the winds blew out the windows of 11 automobiles and took the roofing off several homes under construction in Rock Springs.
