There were numerous reports of quarter to golf ball size hail in around around Riverton, with the largest hail stones reported on the east side of Riverton. Many vehicles sustained windshield and body damage from the hail. Dozens of homes on the east side of Riverton had roof shingle damage, with roof replacements occurring regularly over the next 4 months.
Trained spotters and a National Weather Service employee reported hail from dime to 1.33 inch-sized from near Sinks Canyon State Park to South Pass. The hail accumulated several inches near Red Canyon along Highway 28, and snow plows had to be called out to clear the hail off the road.
An off-duty NWS employee reported 0.75 inch diameter hail. In addition, rainfall of around one-half inch to about one inch fell in less than 30 minutes. The result was minor street flooding in many areas of central and east Riverton.
